Day Job: Little Paper Boutique

I absolutely love the Storque Blog’s feature Quit Your Day Job but I know many Etsy sellers who have (love it or hate it) a day job and are proudly juggling the ups and downs of both!

Rebecca Williams of freshman shop Little Paper Boutique shared her story for the Etsy Business Blog.

Describe yourself:
I am a newlywed living in the suburbs in Michigan.
I have always enjoyed making things and when we bought our house two years ago, I took over the spare room and my “craftiness” just grew like crazy! As did my credit card bills from it…

Occupation:
I work at a gorgeous golf course in Oakland, Michigan. I am the event coordinator there, so I help plan weddings, social events, and corporate events. I love my job, I have been doing it for about 7 years now.

Let It Snow CardWhat do you sell on Etsy?
I sell paper products.
Different cards, invitations, gift tags, announcements, etc.

Do you have dreams of quitting your day job?
I don’t think I would ever want to quit. I love what I do and can’t see myself leaving anytime soon. I enjoy the people that I work with and the social atmosphere there.

How do you juggle the stress of both?
I actually enjoy
the stress, it motivates me to get stuff done. I need the deadlines. My day job is a different type of stress, I still do a lot of work from home, so working on my cards relaxes me. Plus, I usually watch a lot of random TV while doing it, so that helps! I don’t think the real stress will hit me until we have kids. But until then, a day job and this isn’t that bad.

What’s your family life like?
I was just married in August 2009 and we are getting a puppy this spring! My parents and extended family live relatively close by and we are very tight knit.
My in-laws are spread all over the east coast.

Do your coworkers know about your Etsy life?
The woman who I share an office with, Cindy, knows about it. She has been very supportive… especially when I check my convos to respond to people! I have helped her with invitations and announcements and she likes seeing what I Ho Ho Ho Cardmake. That helps a lot, I don’t know how I would deal if I didn’t have her support!

What are your future shop goals?
I would just like to be a store that people know about. I honestly don’t expect to make a great deal of money from this. But I would like to be recognized on this site and for people to think that my items are top quality. My store is very new so I have a long way to go!
