Help Question – Wholesale Packaging

Chris over at Be ADorned Jewelry asks:

Is it ok to send retailers the jewelry pieces in plastic baggies and should they be tagged in any way?

My answer:

You should always ask each individually retailer what they are looking for in regards to your question but in my experience:

Packaging:

- Retailers provide their own boxes and bags

–> If they request them, you should charge face value (or more) for the items they want because it is normally not included in the wholesale price. If you offer them free boxes and bags that would cut into your profit. The items I have never provided unless I was asked to includes organza bags, boxes, gift bags, displays (such as pads, earring stands) and so on.

–> Things you can/should include are cards for them to give out or if you want to take it one step further, order branding materials such as ring stickers, necklace tags, earring cards so that when people buy your jewelry from the retailer, they have YOUR information to look up once they get it home. This would be out of your pocket as stores do not require these things.

Tagging:

Since you will provide your retailer with an invoice, they will have a copy of the items they have purchased including names and wholesale prices. BUT that doesn’t mean they will know which one is which. It’s always best to include a type out describing the pieces so that the store doesn’t call you up asking which one is which.

Any follow up questions please let me know in comments. Want more wholesale help? See here or here.
